In the autumn of 2012, a homeowner in Izola asked me whether a pergola with brise-soleil louvers could be waterproof. I said no, but on the very same day the idea was born that led to the development of the world’s first bioclimatic pergola. In the following weeks, we developed and tested it – even in snow – and presented it in spring 2013 at the DOM Fair in Ljubljana.
The praise from architects and customers came immediately, but it took several years for the Hard-Top pergola to gain recognition on the market. Today, I know that this was the beginning of a new outdoor living culture, as many imitators from Europe, Turkey, and China have followed. Now, a terrace with a bioclimatic pergola has become almost indispensable in any house renovation or new build.
